Today our school had their annual garbage pick up day for Earth week. Our class went outside to clean up around the school. There wasn't a lot of garbage to pick up other than all those cigarettes on the floor. Some people in our class worked really well. Others in our class (including me) didn't work so well.
The main reason why I didn't contribute as much was mainly because I hate cigarettes. Because most of the garbage on the ground were cigarettes, I didn't feel comfortable picking them up.
Our teacher was really disappointed that we couldn't even handle a task that small. He had to constantly tell us to continue cleaning like we were in Grade 3. I think it made him really annoyed in my opinion.
Honestly, I was more disappointed in myself. I could've just picked it up, since I was wearing gloves anyway, and then just wash my hands really well. I didn't even do that. Instead I just stood around and chatted. I did pick up some garbage but not enough to say to myself, "Wow. I did a great job today."
Well that's how our cleaning day went. Hopefully next time we can do a much better job.

Yesterday, there was an incident which occurred in Boston Massachusetts at the annual marathon. A bomb went off beside the finish line where the family and friends were cheering for the runners. A few people were killed, including an 8 year old girl, and many were injured, including two people with amputated limbs. This was a great tragedy for the city of Boston. The Boston Celtics' game was cancelled due to this event.
Then another problem occurred. A fox news reporter, by the name of Erik Rush tweeted about this incident saying, "Everybody do the National Security Ankle Grab! Let's bring more Saudis in without screening them! C'mon!"
After someone tweeted a reply saying, "Sweet God. Are you ALREADY BLAMING MUSLIMS.??" Erik Rush tweeted back saying, " Yes, they're evil. Let's kill them all."
To me personally, being a Muslim, this is preposterous and blasphemous! I can't believe that a news reporter would blatantly accuse Muslims, not terrorists but Muslims in general, of this tragic incident that injured so many innocent people. I think Erik Rush should be fired.

Last week, my brother Omar, my cousin Munir, his sister Shama, and I went to the Waterloo Recreational Center to listen to a few local guest speakers to present their spoken word poetry. I was amazed with how many great poets we have in the region. The organizers of the event (I forget what it was called) somehow managed to get a guest poet who travels around the world doing spoken word poetry. His name is Boonaa Mohammed. This event was an Islamic based event and all the spoken word poetry from all the guest poets were based around Islam but, Boonaa Mohammed, while delivering the Islamic message, gave a lot of life lessons in his poetry. I took a look at his twitter page and I found many followers who weren't even Muslim. This shows that his audience is well beyond the Islamic community and communicates to people of all sorts of religions. Check out one of his spoken word poetry videos on YouTube.
